THDC jobs for Engineer Trainee


THDC India Ltd. a Mini Ratna, Schedule “A” PSU is a joint venture of Govt. of India and Govt. of Uttar Pradesh. The Company was incorporated as a limited company under the Companies Act, 1956 in July, 1988 to develop, operate and maintain the Tehri Hydro Power Complex and other Hydro Projects with equity participation in the ratio of 3:1 by Govt. of India and Govt. of U.P.  The Corporation has an authorised share capital of  `4000 crores. The Corporation has earned a net profit of `3252.06 million, ` 4799.51 million and ` 6004.8 million during the Financial years 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 respectively.


          THDC is implementing the Tehri Hydro Power Complex (2400 MW) on the river Bhagirathi comprising of Tehri Dam and Hydro Power Plant (1000 MW), Koteshwar HEP (400 MW) and Tehri PSP (1000 MW) out of which Tehri HPP and two units of Koteshwar Hydro Electric Project (100MW each) is under operation. The Corporate Office is situated at Rishikesh. The operational unit is located at Tehri under the jurisdiction of Tehri Garhwal District of Uttarakhand which is approximately 83 KMs from Tehri Project.  The other project under construction is Vishnugad Pipalkoti HEP (444 MW) on the river Alaknanda.


          DPR preparation for Malari Jhelum (114 MW) and Jhelum Tamak (126 MW) on the river Dhauliganga is underway. Karmoli HEP (140 MW), Jadhganga HEP (50 MW) on river Jadhganga and Bokang Bailing HEP (330 MW) on river Dhauliganga (Kali) are under Survey and investigation Stage.


          Apart from the aforesaid projects in Uttarakhand, the Dhukwa Small Hydro Project (24 MW) on river Betwa nearJhansi in Uttar Pradesh has also been entrusted to THDCIL by Govt. of U.P.  THDC has entered into an MOU with Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL) to synergize strengths and competencies for development of Hydro Power Projects including pumped storage schemes in the country.  Govt of Maharashtra has allotted 2 PSPs viz. Malshej Ghat (600 MW) on river Kalu and Humbarli (400 MW) on Vazarde Nalah (a tributary of Koyna river) in a Joint Venture of THDCIL and NPCIL for updation of DPR.



          Under India-Bhutan Cooperation in Hydro Sector development, MOP has allotted two Projects, viz. Sankosh Multi Purpose Project (4060 MW) on river Sankosh and Bunaka HEP (180 MW) on river Wangchu in Bhutan for updation of DPR.


          With a view to diversify its business Portfolio, THDC India Ltd. has entered into an MOU with Govt. of Uttar Pradesh on 31.12.2010 for setting up the 1320 MW Khurja Super Thermal Power Plant in District Bulandshahar, of Uttar Pradesh. Efforts are being made to explore possibility of entering into Wind Energy & Solar Energy Sectors in near future

(i)       Qualification:

          Full time Bachelor’s Degree (B.E/B.Tech) in Engineering or Technology from a recognized Indian University/Institute approved by AICTE.  Candidates with not less       


than 65% marks, taking average of all the Semesters/Years, irrespective of the weightage given to any particular semester/year by the University/Institute and also not less than 65% marks in XII & X examinations will only be considered. A candidate with the prescribed degree identified for discipline as given below can only apply for the post of Engineer/Executive (Trainee) in the respective discipline.

For SC/ST and PH category candidates, qualifying marks will be “Pass Mark”.


 (ii)     Age Limit: Upper age limit is 30 years as on 01.01.2012.



          Eligible candidates will have to undergo a Selection Test.  The Selection test shall comprise of Two Papers.  The First paper shall consist of (i) Test of Reasoning Ability; (ii) Quantitative Aptitude; (iii) General Awareness; (iv) Psychometric test; and (v) Professional knowledge/subject. The candidates will have the choice for appearing in the test either in Hindi or in English.   The 2nd Paper shall comprise of    

written test in English Language which will be both objective and descriptive. Written Test will be conducted at Delhi only. In case of adequate response test may be conducted in any of the other metropolitan cities also which will be published in website.  The candidates who are short-listed after the written test will be called for Group Discussion and Interview.



      Selected candidates will be placed in the pay scale of ` 20,600-3%-46500 (IDA) during the period of training. These candidates will be absorbed after successful completion of training as Engineer/Executive in E-2A Grade in the pay scale of           ` 24,900-3%-50,500 (IDA).

      Besides basic pay candidates will also be paid Dearness Allowance and will also be entitled for other perquisites & allowances under cafeteria approach. Benefits such as leave, medical treatment, Provident Fund, Gratuity, Performance Related Pay, etc. will be admissible as per company rules in force from time to time during training/after absorption.

      Approximate CTC per annum are as follow:

      During Training Period     - Approx. Rs.6 Lakh

      After Training Period        - Approx. Rs.8.63 Lakh



      The selected candidates shall undergo one year training at various places. The place of posting will be decided after successful completion of training, based on performance during the training period and requirement of various units of the Corporation.  Candidates can be placed, across the country, in any of the functions at projects/stations or offices including joint ventures & subsidiary companies of THDC India Ltd. 



          The selected candidates who belong to General & OBC category will be required to execute a service Agreement Bond of ` 2,50,000/- (` Two lakh fifty thousand only) and SC/ST/PH candidate ` 1,25,000/- (` One lakh twenty five thousand only)  to successfully complete the prescribed training and thereafter serve the company for at least 03 years.



        The candidate should have sound health. Before joining, candidates will have to undergo medical examination by CMO, THDCIL dispensary or CMO of any Govt. Hospital in accordance with specified medical standards. No relaxation in health standards is allowed.





1.               Reservation and relaxations for SC/ST/OBC candidates (non-creamy layer)/Persons with Disabilities (degree of disability 40% or above) and Ex-Serviceman will be as per Government guidelines.

2.              Category (SC/ST/OBC/PWD) once filled in the application form will not be changed and no benefit of other category will be admissible later on. The reserved category candidates are required to submit requisite certificate in the prescribed format of Government of India, issued by the competent authority.

3.              No processing fee will be charged from SC/ST & PWD category candidates.

4.              The upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC candidates. It is relaxed by 10 years for PWD General, 13 years for PWD- OBC and 15 years for PWD-SC/ST candidates.

5.              The OBC candidates who belong to “Creamy Layer” are not entitled for OBC concession and such candidates have to indicate their category as General. The OBC (Non- Creamy Layer) candidates are required to submit requisite certificate in prescribed format of Government of India, from a competent authority issued in the current year at the time of interview, if called for.

6.              Upper age is relaxed by 5 years for the candidates who had ordinarily been domiciled in the state of Jammu & Kashmir from 01.01.80 to 31.12.89.



(i)              There is no age bar for Departmental candidates

(ii)             For departmental candidates, the standard of qualifications shall be reduced to “Pass” marks.

(iii)            There is no processing fee for Departmental Candidates.


1.                 All Degree/Diploma/Certificates should be from Indian University/Institute  recognized and approved by AICTE and concerned regulatory bodies/Appropriate Statutory Authority.

2.                 Wherever CGPA/OGPA or letter grade in a degree is awarded; equivalent percentage of marks should be indicated in the online application form as per norms adopted by the University/Institute.  The candidate will have to produce a copy of these norms with respect to his/her University/Institute at the time of interview.


3.                 A candidate is eligible to apply strictly for only one discipline/major specialization.

4.                 The Management reserves the right to increase /decrease the no. of vacancies or not to fill up any of the posts or raise the minimum eligibility standards/or relax age/experience criteria in otherwise suitable cases and cancel candidature of any candidate without assigning any reason.

5.                 The E-mail ID entered in the online application form must remain valid at least for a period of one year from the date of application. No change in the E-mail ID will be allowed, once entered. All future correspondence would be sent via E-mail only.

6.                 Candidature of the applicant is liable to be rejected at any stage of recruitment process or after recruitment or joining if any information provided by the candidate is false or is not found in conformity with eligibility criteria mentioned in the Advertisement.

7.                 The candidate applying should ensure that they fulfill all eligibility conditions.  Their admission at all the stages of the Written Test/Interview will be purely provisional subject to satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions.  Mere issue of Admission Certificate/Interview Call letter to the candidate will not imply that his/her candidature has been finally cleared by THDC India Ltd.  THDC India Ltd. will take up verification of eligibility conditions with reference to original documents at the time of Personal Interview.

8.                 The mere fact that a candidate has submitted the application against the advertisement and apparently fulfilling the criteria as prescribed in the advertisement would not bestow on him/her the right to be definitely called  for interview/considered further for selection process.  The decision of THDC India Ltd.  as to  the eligibility or otherwise of a candidate for admission to the written test/interview shall be final.

9.                 Candidates working in Public Sector Undertakings/Govt. Departments shall forward their application through proper Channel.

10.             A copy of SC/ST/OBC (Non-creamy layer)/Physically challenged certificate from a competent authority shall necessarily be submitted by the   candidates to belong to any particular category.

11.             The definition of Locomotor Disabilities, Hearing Impairment and                 Blindness/ Low  Vision  for  Physically Challenged Candidates is as per “The Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Right and Full Participation) Act, 1995”. The Physically Challenged candidates are required to furnish duly Stamped Medical Certificate in relation to their disability from Govt. Hospital or Medical Board.


12.             If any Caste/Category certificate etc. is issued in a language other than Hindi/English, candidates are advised to produce a self certified translated copy of the same either Hindi or English language at the time of interview.

13.             TA/DA will not be paid to any candidate appearing for the examination. However candidates called for the interview shall be reimbursed sleeper class to and fro rail fare by shortest route from their starting station or mailing address, within India, which is nearest to the Place of Interview, on production of proof of journey.   Canvassing or otherwise influencing the selection process will render the candidature invalid.

14.             Incomplete applications and late applications are liable to be summarily rejected.

15.             Application received after the closing date shall neither be entertained nor returned.

16.             THDC India Ltd. will not be responsible for any postal delay/loss in transit in submission of documents within specified time.

17.             Selected candidates are liable to be posted anywhere in India or Abroad.      

18.             THDCIL reserves the right to cancel/restrict/enlarge/modify/alter the recruitment process, if need so arises, without issuing any further notice or assigning any reason whatsoever.         

19.             Any dispute arising in this connection will be subject to Jurisdiction of Dehradun (Uttarakhand).

         A crossed demand draft of ` 500/- (Rupees five hundred only) for General & OBC Category candidates in favour of “THDC India Ltd.” drawn on State Bank of India (Code No.1180) or any Nationalized Bank payable at Rishikesh is to be enclosed along with application. No other mode of payment is acceptable. Candidates are advised to write their names and address on reverse side of D.D. No application fee is to be paid by SC/ST and PH Candidates. The draft no., date of issue, amount, and issuing Branch should be entered in the online application.

Submission of application:

             The candidate should send duly signed printout of registration slip after affixing the passport size colour photograph, attaching attested photocopies of all academic testimonials.   In case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PH/OBC, should enclose attested copies of certificate issued by the Competent Authority indicating the category they belong to.  The envelope should be superscribed with Advertisement No. post applied for and category (i.e. Gen./OBC/SC/ ST/ PH/Departmental), as the case may be and should be sent by ordinary post to

         Candidates are advised to keep six identical coloured passport size photograph (3.5 cm x 3.5 cm size), duly attested by a Gazetted Officer not older than 3 months of date of application.  The photograph should be with clear front view of the candidate without cap or sunglasses.  Xerox copy of photograph is not permitted.  5 out of the above six original identical photograph shall be kept with the candidate for use at various stages of the process of selection.  Identical photos shall be used throughout the selection process.  Different styled photograph(s) may lead to rejection of the candidature.
